Tsavorite or tsavolite is a variety of green garnet so named by Tiffany & Co. in 1974 when the gem was initially introduced to North America.
It was so named in honor of the Tanzania/Kenyon Tsavo River which flows through Tsavo National Park in which the stone was first found.
This scarce species of garnet has a radiant green color with a brilliance superior to that of the emerald. It exhibits great transparency and fewer inclusions to the emerald as well.
Cut into an oval shape of 1.45 carats, it is four-prong set into platinum. Its companions in brilliance are fourteen diamonds that add up to .40 carats. White and pretty darn dazzling, their color is G-H and their clarity range is VS2-I1 for clear inclusion only to a few.
