Description

You have to admire the British Empire for its system of hallmarking of gold & silver (and silver plate).

This tradition (and law) has been in place since around 1300! Yes, that is 1300, not a typo.

Most jewelry was not marked if the series of lead punches would harm it. But some sturdier rings were hallmarked as is this one.

Fortunate for us as it makes it clear that it is from the year 1898, and was made in Birmingham, England.

The double knot provides a lyrical, yet powerful, sinuous design and its accompanying symbolism. Often termed the love knot, this one has two of them entwined.

Family ties, love that holds fast, its many interpretations are up to you.
