Description

The late Christie Romero, a brilliant researcher, historian, and former editor of "Warman's Jewelry: Identification and Price Guide"? reported that the suffragette colors of green, white, and purple (not violet) do not represent the acrostic, "G-ive W-omen the V-ote.

Rather it was the symbolism, that of purple for dignity, white for purity and green for hope which truly represented the franchise movement.

No matter the origins of the emblematic apologue, the colors have been regarded as synonymous with the fight in both Europe and the United States for supporting the rights of women to include their ability to vote. Yes, it is hard to believe a mere 100 years ago women couldn't vote in the US or the UK (among others).

The campaign not only impacted the civil liberties of women but also influenced fashion and jewelry of the times.

Here in all its symbolism is a circa 1900 amethyst, diamond and demantoid garnet pendant of 15k gold. Original, rather than made up to look like a suffragette pendant, it is authentic.

A victory garland holds petite demantoid garnets and natural seed pearls of 2.8 mm. A dangle of a lush, purple amethyst adds the dignity to the drop. Fight on.
