In recent years, the fact is that older, rarer items in great condition are fewer and far between. The collection mania of the last decades has resulted in many of the unusual and scarce pieces sitting safely in someone's jewelry box or bank safe.

But there is always positive news. For this is the first pair of fine, teardrop 18th century earrings we have had in years. And they have it all.

Both fancy-cushion cut pastes adorn the frame of the teardrop shape with a central pear-cut paste. The surmount is a solitaire round and faceted paste.

Set closed backed and foiled in silver for maximum refraction; each presents white and clear. Nothing cloudy or dull about these beauties.

Characteristic of the 18th century, the backs are bulbous and sculptural; curvaceous profiles add femininity and presence.

Later, silver shepherd's hook ear wires have been added. Previously, the drops were removable, but for security, the fittings have been closed.
