How do we know something is French in origin? One definite clue can be the hallmarks.
Hallmarks are tiny, almost invisible impressions placed into precious metals. Various shapes and configurations are utilized by many countries.* If these are present, they can serve as indicators of the country of origin and can also refer to a specific year or a range of years of creation.
View our last photo to see two French marks. On the left, a dog's head, facing upward, demonstrates the use of platinum. On the right, the well-known eagle's head faces right. Magnification can detect these marks, which are nearly imperceptible in person. France places its marks on the outside of the shank or band, at the back or back side.
At the center of this low-profile ring rests a natural, sky-blue, cushion-cut aquamarine. The bezel setting enhances the gemstone with the added illusion of side diamonds, but in reality, it is a pattern that reflects and refracts light.
